Cost Estimate: The first thing you will see from me will be a cost estimate/proposal. Click here to see what I will need from you to be able to provide this. The cost estimate is presented as a window, with a low end and a high end, based on the site parameters you have supplied: approximate number of site section and pages within those sections, the kinds of functionality you would like to have (i.e. client-side content management system, lead-generation database), and the deadline. Additional things to consider will be whether you want us to handle your domain registration, hosting set-up and search engine optimization. I charge for the actual number of hours worked within the estimate window.
Pre-Production: Once the estimate has been approved, and we have settled on a payment schedule, I start the pre-production phase. This phase consists of conversations between us that result in my delivery of the following documents:
- schedule for site design and development
- site architecture
- creative brief
Design: At this point we are ready to start design. I will design 2-3 directions for the homepage first (depending on what has been agreed to up-front). These designs will be as different as possible while all being in compliance with the creative brief. I allow for two rounds of revisions (if needed) to the homepage before final sign-off, and then we move into lower-level page template design. I likewise allow for two rounds of revisions on lower-level page template design before sign-off. If there is the need for specific content treatments, I will design these next. Once we have sign-off on design we start the development phase.
Production: At this point we get busy coding based on the approved layouts.
QA: When coding and production are finished, the site undergoes QA (Quality Assurance) testing on the major current browsers and platforms, and tweaks/fixes are made based on our findings.
Client Site Review: The coded site is then presented, and any final revisions are made.
Site Launch: It's time to upload and launch a finished and approved site!
