VAIL SKI RESORT'S BLUE SKY BASIN

Vail Ski Resort

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Vail approached us wanting to create great excitement over their opening of Blue Sky Basin: the largest terrain expansion at any ski resort in many many years and an area for ungroomed backcountry skiing. Our approach was to come up with an interactive experience that would give the visitor a real sense of what it would be like to ski in the backcountry. We wanted to communicate the serenity one would feel, the introspective and almost spiritual nature of this special kind of skiing.

We had only a few photographs of the area to work with and so we utilized these to the fullest, creating an experience where the visitor picks their own path down the mountain, learning factual tidbits about the area along the way. Each choice the visitor makes leads them to a different part of the mountain and each image is accompanied by copy that is written to elicit the emotions one might feel all alone out in the backcountry. At the bottom of the mountain the visitor is given the choice to either ride again for a different view of the mountain, or to find out all the standard info about a trip to Blue Sky Basin.
